We are always impressed with the quality trout fishing in Ireland. In addition to having the premier fly shop in all of Europe, Andrew Ryan, Clonanav Fly Fishing, has access to almost 20 miles of private, controlled, catch-and-release trout water with good populations of beautiful brown trout averaging up to 22 inches. The streams, like the Nire, Suir, and Tar, are small to medium size and the fish are anxious to take a well placed dry fly or dry dropper. And for anyone wishing for a day or two of Atlantic Salmon fishing, Andrew will provide the needed tackle. It’s a unique opportunity to be able to fish for both species during our week.

 

Ireland is also a wonderful destination for non-angling companions as the non-anglers have their own private tour guide and private coach and spend the days exploring. Some of the sightseeing destinations include the Rock of Cashel, Ormond Castle, Youghal Tourist Trail, Waterford Crystal, Jameson Heritage Center, Blarney Castle, St. Canice’s Cathedral and much more. The private coach will deliver the anglers to the fly shop each morning, spend the day sightseeing, and meet the anglers again at the end of the day to return everyone to the Hotel Minella for dinner and evening accommodations. 

 

Located between the Comeragh Mountains and the River Sur in Clonmel, County Tipperary, the Hotel Minella Clonmel is owned and managed by the Nallen family and offers 90 guest rooms and two dining rooms. The original Georgian house was built by the Malcomsoms in 1863, and the Minella was opened as a hotel in 1963. The Minella is a great location as it is very close to the trout fishing.

 

It’s a fun week of good fishing and lots of Irish humor from Andrew and the guides. The group will meet for a hearty “angler’s lunch” — a hot catered meal alongside the stream, or perhaps at the local pub. We’ll have a quick lunch and perhaps a wee pint before heading back to the stream for the afternoon.
