Tying Beck's Super Beetle
I recently came across a YouTube video with Don Fine from the Potomac Valley Fly Fishers tying my super beetle, which I had not seen. If you are new to fly tying, you may want to try this pattern and check out Don's other tying videos. He's very patient and thorough at explaining each tying step. Plus, it's the season for fishing the super beetle. From now until frost terrestrials will play an important part in the fish diet for not only trout but bass and panfish as well.
The name Don Fine may sound familiar to you since he is one of a group of people instrumental in forming F.O.L.K. – Friends of Lefty Kreh, in order to honor Lefty with a bronze memorial sculpture of Lefty in his home town, Frederick, Maryland and to carry on Lefty's tradition of promoting the sport of fly fishing.

F.O.L.K.
If you were at the Edison, NJ, show you may have visited the F.O.L.K. (Friends of Lefty Kreh), booth. They are close to raising the money needed for the life size bronze statue of Lefty in his hometown of Frederick, MD, on Culler Lake in Baker Park, not far from where Lefty went to school.
