Argentina, San Huberto Estancia

March 9-15, 2022

It's hard to believe, when one looks at San Huberto Lodge today, the humble beginning this dream was for the Olsen family. Carlos's parents settled here in the 1890's, crossing the Andes from Chile, and Germany before that. With little more than perseverance, hard work, and true grit Carlos & Carmen Olsen have done what most would have said was impossible.

Today the Olsen family's 25,000 acre property shelters almost 20 miles of the Malleo River, the most famous river in all of Patagonia. Notorious for inexhaustible and diverse hatches, this spring creek-like freestone is synonymous with dry fly fishing and Patagonia. Sons Gustavo and Ronnie, and daughter Karin, and their families follow in the family tradition of exceptional hospitality and a trip to Patagonia would not be complete without a visit to San Huberto.

We wouldn't host trips to San Huberto for more that 25 consecutive years if we didn't enjoy the relationships we've formed with the Olsens, the guides, and the river. When you consider the superb fishing the Rio Malleo offers and the privilege of staying at San Huberto, being able to return annually is a gift. The Olsen family carefully manages more than 20 beats on the river ranging from placid meadow pools to tumbling canyon pocket water. In fall, the baetis hatches can provide all day dry fly fishing and, well – you have to see it to believe it.

For 2022, this destination dovetails nicely with Estancia Tecka (March 9-15) for anglers wishing to fish for more than a week in Patagonia. A 2022 itinerary is not yet available, but we offer the 2020 edition, and with the exception of dates and a slight price adjustment, the itinerary accurately describes the trip.

We hope you can join us at San Huberto. It is sure to be a special week.
